Privacy Policy
AnyMarker is a desktop app that runs on your computer. This policy explains the small amount of data that does leave it, what happens when you buy a licence or contact support, and what rights you have over any of it.
The short version
AnyMarker has no account, no cloud, and no analytics. Your recordings, chapter titles, file names, and folder paths never leave your machine — we could not see them if we wanted to.
The app makes network requests for exactly two reasons: to check whether an update exists, and to validate your licence key. Buying and support are the only times we learn anything about you personally, and that's your email address and what you chose to tell us.
Who is responsible
The data controller for AnyMarker is Kuswanto, a sole trader based in Indonesia, operating through wanto.work. Reach us through the support form or at support@wanto.work.
Purchases are a separate matter: Polar Software Inc. is the Merchant of Record and is an independent controller of your billing data. See Buying a licence.
What the app sends
Every network request AnyMarker makes on its own is listed here. There is no telemetry, no crash reporting, no usage analytics, and no advertising SDK in the app.
| Request | Goes to | Contains | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Update check | wanto.work | A plain request for a small manifest file. No identifier is attached. Your IP address and browser-style user agent are visible to the server, as with any web request. | On launch and periodically |
| Licence validation | Polar (api.polar.sh) | Your licence key, our public organisation ID, and an opaque machine label. No file names, no recordings, no personal details from your computer. | On activation, and on a periodic re-check |
| Trial check | — nowhere | The 7-day trial is calculated entirely on your machine, offline. Starting or checking a trial sends nothing. | Never leaves the device |
| OBS connection | Your own computer | The WebSocket link to OBS Studio, normally localhost. It never leaves your machine or network unless you deliberately point it at another computer. | While the app runs |
AnyMarker works fully offline. Every core feature — recording markers, writing the chapter file, embedding chapters into your video — runs with no internet connection at all. Fonts, icons, and the emoji picker are bundled inside the app rather than loaded from a CDN, so nothing is fetched from a third party while you use it.
What stays on your computer
These files are created on your own disk. We never receive them, and nothing in them is transmitted anywhere.
| Settings | OBS WebSocket URL and password, embedding preferences, licence key and status, trial start date. |
| Presets | Your marker presets and button layouts. |
Chapter .txt files | Written next to your recordings, with the marker timestamps and titles you tapped. |
| Application log | Diagnostic lines including file paths of recordings AnyMarker processed. Rotates automatically and is capped at roughly 6 MB. |
Where they live
Settings and presets — two files directly in your home folder:
~/.anymarker_config.json%USERPROFILE%\.anymarker_config.jsonThe preset file sits beside it, named .anymarker_preset.json on both platforms.
Application log
~/Library/Logs/AnyMarker/app.log%LOCALAPPDATA%\AnyMarker\logs\app.logYour OBS WebSocket password is stored in that settings file on your own machine so the app can reconnect. It is sent only to OBS, over your local connection. It is never sent to us or to Polar.
The log can contain the names and folder paths of files you recorded. That is worth knowing if you ever attach a log to a support request — have a look at it first, and redact anything you'd rather not share. See the User Guide for exactly where the log lives on each platform.
The machine label
To count activations — so one licence isn't used on twenty computers, and so activating the same machine twice doesn't burn two slots — AnyMarker derives a short label for your computer.
It is a SHA-256 hash of your operating-system username, your computer's hostname, and your home directory path, joined together and truncated to 32 hexadecimal characters. Only that truncated hash is ever sent; the values it was made from are not.
- It is not a hardware serial number, MAC address, disk UUID, or advertising identifier.
- It cannot be used to track you across other apps or websites, because nothing else computes it.
- It is a deliberately soft check meant to stop casual trial resets, not a security boundary. We describe it plainly here rather than calling it “anonymous”, because a hostname and username are yours, and a hash of a small guessable input is pseudonymous rather than anonymous.
Buying a licence
Checkout happens on Polar, not on our site. We never see or store your card number, bank details, or any payment credential — those go to Polar and its payment processor and never touch our systems.
From a completed order, we can see in the Polar dashboard: your name (as entered), your email address, your billing country, the order amount and date, and your licence key with its activation records. We use that only to fulfil the purchase, to support you, and to keep the records tax law requires.
Polar acts as an independent controller for the payment and for the tax it collects and remits. Its handling of your data is governed by Polar's privacy policy and terms, which we recommend reading before you buy.
Support requests
When you submit the support form, you send us your name, your email address, your message, and any technical detail you choose to include — such as your operating system, app version, or a pasted log excerpt.
- The submission creates a ticket in a private issue tracker hosted on GitHub, and sends a notification to our inbox with your address set as the reply-to, so replying reaches you directly. The tracker is not public and the ticket is never visible to other users.
- The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-focused bot check that does not use tracking cookies or build a profile of you. Turnstile processes your IP address and a challenge token for that check.
- Please don't paste anything into a support message you wouldn't want kept — passwords, licence keys belonging to someone else, or client-confidential file names. If you already did, tell us and we'll delete it.
This website
wanto.work is served through Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes request data — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp — to deliver pages and to protect against attacks and abuse. That is standard server operation, not profiling.
The AnyMarker pages set no advertising cookies and run no cross-site trackers. Web fonts on these documentation pages are requested from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google's font servers when you view them; that request carries your IP address and is subject to Google's privacy policy. The app itself does not do this — it bundles its fonts locally.
Why we're allowed to use this data
If you are in the EU, the UK, or another region with comparable law, these are our legal bases under the GDPR and equivalents:
| Licence validation | Performance of a contract — we can't give you a working licence without checking it. |
| Order and billing records | Performance of a contract, and legal obligation for tax and accounting retention. |
| Support correspondence | Legitimate interests — answering the question you asked us. |
| Update checks, abuse prevention, Turnstile | Legitimate interests — shipping fixes and keeping the site and forms usable. |
How long we keep it
- Order and licence records — for as long as the licence is valid, and afterwards for the period tax and accounting law requires (typically several years). Polar keeps its own copy under its own policy.
- Support tickets and email — kept while the issue is open and for a reasonable period afterwards, so a follow-up months later still has context. Ask us and we'll delete yours sooner.
- Server and Turnstile logs — retained briefly by Cloudflare under its own retention schedule.
- Everything on your computer — kept until you delete it. Uninstalling AnyMarker does not remove your config, presets, chapter files, or logs; delete those yourself if you want them gone.
Who else sees it
We do not sell your data, rent it, or share it for advertising. Ever. The only third parties involved are the ones needed to run the product:
| Polar | Merchant of Record — payments, tax, receipts, licence keys and activations. |
| Cloudflare | Website hosting and delivery, the support form's backend, and Turnstile bot protection. |
| GitHub | Private issue tracker where support tickets are recorded. |
| Email provider | Delivery of support notifications and replies. |
We may also disclose data where the law genuinely requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
International transfers
We are based in Indonesia, and the providers above operate globally — principally in the United States and the EU. If you are in the EEA or UK, your data may therefore be processed outside your country. Where that happens, our providers rely on the standard safeguards for such transfers, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. The data involved is minimal: an email address, an order record, and whatever you wrote to us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent where we relied on it.
To exercise any of them, contact us through the support form or at support@wanto.work. We'll respond within 30 days. There's no charge, and no form to fill in — a plain email is enough.
- Deletion has a limit worth knowing: we cannot delete an order record we're legally required to retain for tax purposes, and deleting your licence record would deactivate your licence. We'll tell you plainly which parts we can remove and which we can't.
- For billing data held by Polar, you can also contact Polar directly as the Merchant of Record.
- If you think we've handled your data badly, please tell us first — but you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
AnyMarker is a tool for video producers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change what data AnyMarker sends or how we handle it, we'll update this page and change the “last updated” date. Material changes — anything that widens what we collect — will be called out on the product page and in the release notes, not slipped in quietly.
